Information is like food. A good meal is one that is served in reasonably-sized portions, with tasty ingredients from several food groups. It leaves you satisfied but not stuffed.
Unfortunately, in this new age of social media it’s become information overload. The new age of marketing is all about figuring out who can dish out the best meal, having the people coming back for more and more.
Content is the new buzz word and so you have companies that would have never considered themselves writers become pressured to become bloggers or to go out and buy content from those who have set up shop to produce content to feed the hungry consumers. There is a feeding frenzy going on to secure the best content to dish out; hoping that if you could give the people the tastiest meals they will continue to eat at their company.
Like everything else, a new thing comes from that which was not available before. In the past, the internet was mainly about companies pushing their product and services to the consumer. The consumer was voiceless. Yet now, the consumer is broadcasting their message and companies must provide a new way to speak to their consumer… and right now the buzz is “Fancier meals” to feed the consumer.
Personally I feel like I have come to a place of becoming obese from information. There is so much good content to chew on that I have found myself losing my taste for much of the content that would have wet my appetite before! I bookmark websites intending to come back and then come across another website that has even tastier food to consume and thus, I find I have no time to eat any of it anymore.
I wonder where all this going?
Once something becomes plentiful, it’s becomes less desired. What happens when we are all over fed with content and we no longer have an appetite for it?
Where in the world can we go from here? When we have spoiled the consumer with free 5 star meals, what will ever satisfy them after? Could it be that we will once again crave junk food, knowing it was simple and easy?
I would love to hear your thoughts!
